The Land Transportation Office (LTO) eyes to standardize the fees charged by driving schools.
According to LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade, a committee has already been formed to review the agency’s rules and regulations regarding driving school accreditation.
One of the committee’s main concerns is the allegedly high rates charged by driving schools, which have reportedly been the subject of several complaints to the LTO.
A complainant stated that she had to pay up to P18,000 just to obtain a driver’s license.
Meanwhile, a representative from one driving school stated that the fees are used for fuel, vehicle maintenance and insurance, and driving instructor salaries.
Tugade stated that the LTO provides a free theoretical driving course, but slots are limited.
The LTO charges P100 for student permit applications, P150 for non-professional license applications, and P585 for driver’s license applications.
Applicants for a driver’s license must complete both theoretical and practical driving courses.
