A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck off the municipality of Hermani in Eastern Samar on Saturday afternoon, February 15, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Sunday.

The earthquake occurred at 4:55 p.m. Saturday and was located approximately 33 kilometers east of Hermani. According to Phivolcs, the tremor was tectonic in origin with a depth of 6 kilometers.

Intensity II was recorded in Hermani, Llorente, and Balangkayan, Eastern Samar.

Phivolcs also clarified that no aftershocks or significant property damage are expected from the earthquake.

In a separate report, Phivolcs revealed that Hermani had previously experienced a stronger earthquake earlier that same day. A magnitude 5.5 quake shook the area at 9:18 a.m. on Saturday, February 15. The tremor had a depth of 10 kilometers and was also tectonic in origin.
