Manny Pacquiao made sure to congratulate the dubbed “new Manny” and his protégé Eumir Marcial after earning his first win in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Marcial drew a bye and faced Younes Nemouchi of Algeria.
The Filipino fighter was out for an extended period but showed little to no rust as he almost didn’t break a sweat with his first-round victory via referee stoppage.
The middleweight prospect of the MP Promotions was able to knock down his opponent before an unintentional head butt occurred, the bleeding won’t stop for his opponent, and the fight was called off. Marcial, though, was winning.
Moments after, Pacquiao congratulated him on Twitter.
“Eumir Marcial is one win away from a medal!” He wrote.
Marcial advanced to the quarterfinals, and a win will guarantee him at least a bronze medal in the Olympics.
Pacquiao is a happy mentor as his pro-boxer, who has a 1-0 pro record, has a clear shot to take the second gold medal of the Philippines in the Olympics.
