On Wednesday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. voiced optimism that the week-long transport strike will be called off.

Marcos stated that the administration would discuss the PUV modernisation program with transportation organizations. He is hopeful that the groups’ proposals won’t go forward because it will be bad for commuters.

“I’m hoping na dito sa mga initiatives na iniisip natin eh makumbinsi naman natin ang mga transport groups na huwag na muna mag-strike dahil kawawa talaga ang mga tao at marami pang naghihirap at mas lalo pang maghihirap ‘pag hindi makapasok sa trabaho,” Marcos said in an ambush interview.

Although many jeepney drivers have pleaded with the government to extend the deadline for them to switch to modern jeepneys, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulation Board has only given operators till June 30 to comply.
