Ikinalugod ni retired American world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr ang pagkakaluklok sa kanya sa International Boxing Hall of Fame sa susunod na taon.
Ayon kay Mayweather, ibinuhos niya ang lahat ng kanyang makakaya para sa boxing, kaya malaking karangalan sa kanya ang paggawad ng nasabing pagkilala.
“It is a great honor for me to be inducted … as a first-ballot nominee,” wika ni Mayweather. “Throughout my career, I gave everything I could to the sport of boxing, and now to be recognized by one of the most prestigious honors in the sport for that hard work and dedication is very humbling.”
Sa kanyang boxing career na tumagal ng dalawang dekada, nagtala ng malinis na 50-0 win-loss record si Mayweather, maliban pa sa tatlong National Golden Gloves title, at bronze medal sa 1996 Olympic Games bilang isang amateur.
Maliban kay Mayweather, kasama rin sa 2021 class of inductees sina dating heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, unbeaten woman’s boxing pioneer Laila Ali, dating Olympic champion Andre Ward, Ann Wolfe, Marian Trimiar at Dr. Margaret Goodman.
Binigyan naman ng posthumous recognition sina lightweight champion Davey Moore, Jackie Tonawanda, cut man Freddie Brown, manager-trainer Jackie McCoy, journalist George Kimball at television executive Jay Larkin.
