President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has abolished the Ukrainian citizenship of four political entities, including pro-Kremlin Viktor Medvedchuk, who was known as an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The four people whose citizenship was terminated were Andriy Leonidovych Derkach, Taras Romanovych Kozak, Renat Raveliyovych Kuzmin, and Viktor Volodymyrovych Medvedchuk.
“If people’s deputies choose to serve not the people of Ukraine, but the murderers who came to Ukraine, our actions will be appropriate,” President Zelensky said in a statement.
Medvedchuk was charged with treason before being moved to Moscow in September.
He was detained in April through Ukraine’s special services and he faced accusations of trying to steal natural resources from Russia-annexed Crimea and giving secrets of the Ukrainian military to Moscow.
Medvedchuk was one of the 50 prisoners swapped with 215 Ukrainian imprisoned soldiers.
On the other hand, Kozak and Kuzmin under Medvedchuk’s party won at Ukraine’s parliament but Kozak receive penalties due to the alleged dissemination of wrong information about Russia using the three TV channels he owned. Moreover, Kuzmin was also charged with high treason.
Further, Derkach was imprisoned in December due to illegal dealings in money laundering. He was accused of being an agent of Russia and being involved in interference in US presidential election in 2020.
