Pinag-isa na sa iisang command ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang mga special operations unit nito.
Nuong nakaraang Biyernes, isinagawa ang formal activation ng AFP Special Operations Command (AFPSOCOM) na pinangunahan mismo ni outgoing AFP chief Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero.
Lahat ng mga Special Operations unit ng Air Force; Naval Special Operations Group ng Navy; Scout Ranger Regiment, Special Forces Regiment, at Light Reaction Regiment ng Army kasama ang Joint Special Operations Group ng General Headquarters ay isasailalim na sa command and control ng AFPSOCOM kung saan ang headquarters nito ay matatagpuan sa Fort Magsaysay sa Nueva Ecija.
“In the Eastern Mindanao Command, I saw the need for a single unit that would oversee the proper employment of the different major service special operations forces deployed in the area,” pahayag ni Guerrero.
Naniniwala kasi si Guerrero na ang pagbuo ng SOCOM ay lalo pang ma improve ang special operations units ng militar.
Umaasa din ito na lahat ng gaps at challenges na kahaharapin ng AFP ay matutugunan ngayong activated na ang AFPSOCOM.
“These organizational improvements will ensure that the AFP remains responsive and adaptive to current and emerging challenges in the global security environment,” dagdag pa ni Guerrero.
