MANILA – Naglunsad ng bagong mobile application ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) para makatulong sa pagsuri ng mga gusaling may kakayahan tumindig sa panahon ng lindol.
Ayon kay Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Sec. Fortunato de la Peña, bunga ng isang survey noong 2014 ang na-develop na mobile application para sa “earthquake safety evaluation.”
“The questionnaire is composed of 12 simple questions related to the foundation, design, materials used, and construction of the houses, and provides a rapid evaluation of the possible performance of the house during a strong earthquake,” paliwanag ng kalihim.
Katuwang ng DOST-Phivolcs ang Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines at National Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention ng Japan sa pagbuo ng naturang survey.
Pinamagatan ang survey na “How Safe is My House? Self-Check for Earthquake Safety of Concrete Hollow Block Houses in the Philippines.”
Bahagi raw ito ng proyektong “Enhancement of Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring and Effective Utilization of Disaster Mitigation Information in the Philippines” ng Japan International Cooperation Agency-Japan Science and Technology Agency.
Ani Dela Peña, kabilang sa mga pinagbasehan ng questionnaire sa survey ay National Building Code of the Philippines, at “shaking table tests” na karaniwang ginagawa sa mga konkretong bahay.
Maaari raw ma-download sa Android cellphones ang naturang application.
“The mobile app version of the “How Safe is My House” can be downloaded from Google Play for free. It is currently in English but DOST-Phivolcs plans to translate this to Tagalog and other dialects,” ayon sa kalihim.
Kasali ang Pilipinas sa listahan ng mga bansang sakop ng “Pacific Ring of Fire,” kung saan madalas ang pag-alburuto ng mga bulkan at lindol.
