A devastating explosion in Peshawar, Pakistan killed more than 60 people and recorded 157 injured, says Peshawar Police Chief Mohammad Aijaz Khan.

Police Chief Khan added that the incident was “probably a suicide attack.”

It is still unknown who is behind the attack however, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the suspects had nothing to do with Islam.

“The brutal killing of Muslims prostrating before Allah is against the teachings of the Quran, and targeting the House of Allah is proof that the attackers have nothing to do with Islam,” said Prime Minister Sharif.

The rescuer immediately responded to the said mosque which is located inside the police compound.

“Terrorists want to create fear by targeting those who perform the duty of defending Pakistan,” the Prime Minister added.

On the other hand, Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP), a US-designated foreign terrorist organization operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan, denied involvement in the said mosque attack.

“Regarding the Peshawar incident, we consider it necessary to clarify that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has nothing to do with this incident. According to our laws and general constitution, any action in mosques, madrasas, funerals grounds and other sacred places is an offense,” spokesman of Pakistani Taliban Muhammad Khorasani clarified.

Police authorities started the investigation and have not confirmed any claim as to who is behind the said attack.
