BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental Councilor Jolomar Hilario was shot dead around 6:00 this Sunday morning.
In an exclusive interview of Bombo Radyo Bacolod with Hilario’s sister-in-law, around 50 suspected rebels entered the family’s compound. The suspects allegedly pointed guns to Hilario’s relatives while looking for him.
As soon as the suspects found the victim, they peppered him with gunshots. The perpetrators took the councilor’s bag full of money and firearms.
Hilario’s sister named Marilyn, added that the victim was sleeping together with his wife and two children when the rebels arrived.
However, the responding police failed to enter the area right away due to the blocking force put up by the suspects. Hilario’s relatives rushed him at the nearest hospital, but then declared dead-on-arrival.
A report from Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station said that the armed men claimed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA). Authorities quickly did a clearing operation since there was an information that landmines were planted around Councilor Hilario’s home.
The investigation is still ongoing as to the motive of the killing.
