VIGAN CITY – National Food Authority (NFA) officials is set to meet the National Food Authority Council next week to push for the amendment of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Rice Tariffication Law.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Vigan, NFA OIC Administrator Tomas Escarez said they will ask NFA Council’s consideration to allow them to purchase from local rice farmers beyond the country’s needed buffer stock.

Escarez explained, this is to provide avenue for rice farmers to sell their rice produce.

The NFA official noted that local rice farmers are at the losing end if they are to sell their palays to the rice traders.

Adding that the new law on rice tariffication is not yet fully implemented, Escarez said that the council can still amend it.
