ZAMFARA, Nigeria – Allegedly, mistaken identity is the reason behind the death of 16 civilians in a military air strike in Zamfara State, Nigeria.

It was found that the casualties were mistakenly identified as members of the criminal gangs being pursued in the area.

According to witnesses, the victims were members of local groups but were all civilians.

The group’s enemy was reportedly notorious armed gangs responsible for kidnapping for ransom in their area.

The military attack was supposedly targeting militant gangs in the Zurmi and Maradun areas.

The military admitted that they launched the air strike in the said area.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is conducting a thorough investigation into the report.

State Governor Dauda Lawal and other officials offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
