Despite the days-long riots in the nation following a police officer’s shooting death of a 17-year-old in a Paris suburb, no Filipino living in France has expressed a desire to return home, a representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday.

DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega claimed that he spoke with Junever Mahilum-West, the Philippine ambassador to France, who informed him that Filipinos living in France are avoiding the violent rallies.

DE Vega stated, “Sabi niya kahapon, safe naman ‘yung conditions sa Paris at sa ibang lugar,” adding that marches take place in banlieues, suburbs where there are claimed human rights breaches and discriminations.

“Ang Pilipino marurunong naman umiwas sa mga away,” he further stated.
