Filipinos in Morocco who were affected by the earthquake chose to stay as life continues there despite the powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake that shook the said country last week according to Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Paul Cortes.
Cortes said it is not like the earthquake in Turkey in February of this year where the Filipinos there requested help from the Philippine government for their repatriation.
Although Filipinos in Morocco have decided to stay there for now, the official reiterated that the Philippine government is ready to help if they decide to return home.
Asec Cortes also shared that most Filipinos in Morocco live and work in the capital Rabat as household workers and blue-collar workers, while about 50 Filipinos are in Marrakesh.
Fortunately, no one has lost their jobs and no Filipinos have been reported killed due to the earthquake which has currently killed more than 2,100 people.
