Almost 31,500 families were affected by the oil spill that happened in Oriental Mindoro last February 28.
Until now different agencies are putting a lot of effort to control the spill so that it will not further spread to other areas.
“The oil spill has already affected 31,497 families in MIMAROPA and Western Visayas. The livelihood of 13,654 farmers and fishermen was also affected by the oil leakage,” the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) confirmed.
Further, the OCD said that a total of P23.9 million worth of assistance from the consolidated help already reached the affected areas.
It can be remembered that MT Princess Empress with 800,000 liters of industrial fuel sank, causing the extensive oil spill.
Some residents got sick, and the livelihood in the said areas was also affected especially the fisher folks.
