ILOILO CITY- A speeding sports car crashed against a husband and a wife, both teachers, who were crossing a pedestrian lane along Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue Mandurriao, Iloilo City Saturday.
The victims Jomarie Osano, school principal of La Paz II Elementary School, and Alnie Dinah Pet-Osano, teacher of Ticud Elementary School, were believed to be going for a jog at Iloilo River esplanade when the accident happened. Both were wearing athletic clothes.
The husband was dead on the spot, while the wife was rushed to Medicus Medical Center but was also declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the suspect and driver of white Mazda MX5 sports car identified as June Paul Valencia, 32 years old, was further reported by witnesses to have been speeding away his top down car even after hitting the couple.
He was chased by a passing motorist Allan Calunsod who was driving a pick-up truck.
Calunsod also took the suspect, who was later found out as a Canadian citizen, to the nearest police station.
Police Staff Sergeant Rey Amihan, investigator of Mandurriao Police Station earlier stated that the suspect will face 2 counts of reckless imprudence resulting in damage of property with multiple homicide.
However, Valencia was released after paying P60,000 in bail on his charge on the same day of the accident.
Families and relatives of the killed couple, on the other hand, expressed grief and disappointment on Valencia’s release and are still processing for a necessary case against the suspect who is also feared to flee the country after the road mishap.
