France wants to extend help to the Philippines in mitigating the impact of climate change by offering a P8.87 billion (150 million euros) fund as additional financing through a loan supporting the Climate Change Action Program (CCAP).
The program advocates the resilience of the affected population and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by putting up renewable energies, enhancing energy efficiency, and installing sustainable transport.
Further, it intends to support changes for the better especially in setting up plans and finances that strengthen the mitigation of climate change.
This is in line with France’s commitment to utilize 6 billion euros yearly to aid developing countries like the Philippines in becoming resilient to disasters caused by climate change.
On the other hand, Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno express his support in pursuing solutions for climate change effects.
“The Marcos administration demonstrates this commitment by allocating around 8.72 percent of the 2023 national budget for climate change mitigation and adaptation programs that will allow us to meet our NDC targets,” Diokno said in a statement.
It can be remembered that it has been weeks, and the whole nation is experiencing heavy rains which affected 614,159 individuals or 151,365 families in the part of Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
This is the effect of simultaneous natural occurrences such as low-pressure areas, shear lines, and northeast monsoon.
The Philippines is one of the most vulnerable nations when it comes to the impact of climate change that is why scientists have reminded that as time passes by the storms that will hit the country will be stronger while the world gets warmer.
