Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and unified WBC and IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. met for the first time before their much-anticipated bout to officially announce that their fight is on.
The pre-fight press conference was spearheaded by Premier Boxing Champions and was a pay-per-view.
During the press con, Floyd Mayweather’s name was brought up as Spence admitted that the unbeaten boxer reached out to him to help him and mentor him.
“He talks to me and things like that. He tries to mentor me, so he’ll reach out. If he says he’ll reach out, he definitely will,” Spence said via BoxingScene.
On the other hand, the 42-year Filipino great compared Spence to Mayweather, saying that his 31-year old opponent is better than Mayweather.
He even threw shades on his former rival.
“He could teach Mayweather how to fight toe-to-toe,” he said.
In the end, both fighters acknowledged the power and strength of each other as they brace for an all-out war come August 21.
Pacquiao will be the challenger as he lost his belt due after not fighting for a certain period, while Spence will defend his belt in the biggest fight of his boxing career.
