Nagtapos na ang pag-iral ng southwest monsoon o hanging habagat, na nagdala ng malalakas na ulan sa western section ng ating bansa o sa mga lugar na malapit sa West Philippine Sea.
Ayon sa Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), base sa kanilang nalikom na climate data, nakita na ang paghina ng habagat, kahit may mga nagdaraang bagyo.
At dahil sa mga development na ito, ang pag-iral ng habagat ay nagtapos na.
Samantala, aasahan na ang period of transition at pagkakaroon ng northeast monsoon season o amihan, na inaasahang mararamdaman sa mga darating na araw.
Ang amihan ay nagdadala ng malamig na panahon sa bansa at inaasahang tatagal hanggang sa unang quarter ng susunod na taon.
“With these developments, the Southwest Monsoon season or known locally as “Habagat” is now officially over. The season in the Philippines is in the process of transition and will be expecting the gradual start of the Northeast Monsoon (NE) season in the coming days with a shift in the direction of the winds. Meanwhile, with the ongoing La Nina, there is an increased likelihood of above normal rainfall conditions that could trigger floods, flashfloods and rain-induced landslides over vulnerable areas. Therefore, all concerned government agencies and the public are advised to take precautionary measures to mitigate the potential impacts of these events,” pahayag ni Pagasa Chief Vicente Malano.
