Ipinagpaliban muna ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang mga doktor, nars, at iba pang mga health workers na umalis sa bansa upang magtrabaho sa gitna na rin ng kinakaharap na krisis ng bansa sa coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Sa kautusang nilagdaan ni Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III. na siya ring chairperson ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), nakasaad na hindi muna papayagan ang mga medical frontliners na umalis sa bansa hanggang bawiin na ang ipinatupad na national state of emergency.
Saklaw sa temporary overseas deployment ban ang mga medical doctors, nurses, microbiologists, molecular biologists, medical technologists, clinical analysts, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, X-ray o radiologic technicians, nursing assistants o aide, operator ng medical equipment, supervisor ng health services at personal care, at repairmen ng medical equipment.
“It is of paramount national interest to ensure that the country shall continue to have, sustain the supply of, and prepare sufficient health personnel to meet any further contingencies, especially to replace, substitute or reinforce existing workforce currently employed, deployed or utilized locally,” saad sa kautusan.
Una nang iniulat ng mga pampubliko at pribadong mga ospital sa bansa na numinipis ang kanilang puwersa dahil napilitan ang ilang mga frontliners na sumailalim sa self-quarantine matapos malantad sa mga COVID-19 patients.
Sa datos mula sa Philippine Medical Association, mahigit 200 doktor, nars, at iba panig mga hospital staff ang dinapuan ng deadly virus.
