Isinusulong ng ilang mambabatas ang pagbibigay prioridad ng Development Budget Coordinating Council (DBCC) sa pondo sa mga programa para sa Overseas Filipino Workers.

Sa pamamagitan umano ng pagbibigay ng sapat na pondo sa iba’t ibang ahensya na sumasaklaw sa Overseas Filipino Workers tulad ng Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Foreign Affairs at Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, magkakaroon ng programang para sa kanila.

“Even our economic experts are in agreement that OFW remittances save the economy from going down the drain, thus as we discuss our priorities for the following fiscal year, let us prioritize the budget for the DMW, DFA, and OWWA so they may in turn give back to our OFWS.”, ayon pa kay Rep. Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino.

Sa nakaraang briefing ng Development Budget Coordinating Council, binigyang diin ni OFW Party List Representative Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino ang kahalagahan at ambag ng mga Overseas Filipino Workers sa ekonomiya ng bansa.

Matatandaan na noong taong 2021, ang remittance ng Overseas Filipino Workers ay umabot sa halos USD 35 billion, at ito ay 8.9% ng Gross Domestic Product ng bansa na nakatulong noong kasagsagan ng pandemya.

“Data shows the economic importance of our OFWs as the sector is considered as one of the biggest sources of national income in the Philippines. In return, we must accord them the protection and care they deserve by channeling our budget into the socio-economic well-being of our OFWs. Kapakanan at karapatan ng ating OFWs. Iyan ang dapat alagaan at tiyakin ng ating pamahalaan sa pagtatalaga ng alokasyon ng pambansang kaban.”, sinabi ni Rep. Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino.

Nabanggit rin ni National Economic Development Authority, Secretary Arsenio Balisacan sa nasabing briefing na kung hindi dahil sa mga remittances ng Overseas Filipino Workers ay mas magiging malala ang kalagayan ng ekonomiya ng bansa.
