Hindi na kakayanin ng Commission on Elections o COMELEC na magdaos ng Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan Elections sa Disyembre a-5.
Yan ay kung katigan ng Korte Suprema ang petisyon ni Atty Romula Macalintal na nagpapabasura sa Republic Act 11935 na nagpapaliban sa halalang pambarangay sa Disyembre.
Sa pagdinig sa Senado, sinabi ni COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia, matapos kasing lagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang batas na nagpapaliban sa halalan ay nagbagal na sila sa paghahanda.
“As far as the Comelec is concerned we prepared fully but as of October 10, 2022 we slow down the preparation because of the law signed by the president and so if we will be asked the question if we are ready to hold election by December 5 we will say that there is no material time on the part of the commission to proceed with the election by December 5 and so we will proceed with the procurement later, we will proceed with the printing of the ballots later and such other activities in relation to October 2023 elections,” ani Garcia.
Kung iutos kasi na ituloy ang halalan sa Disyembre ay hindi na kakayaning maghabol ng COMELEC lalo na sa printing ng balota at procurement ng iba pang kakailanganin.
Bukas, haharap ang COMELEC sa Korte Suprema para sa oral argument kaugnay ng petisyon ni Macalintal.
