Isinusulong ni House Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero ng 1-Pacman party-list na ipagbawal na sa mga local collegiate leagues ang pagkuha ng mga foreigner na manlalaro.
Sa inihain niyang House Resolution No. 388, iginiit ni Romero na napagkakaitan ng pagkakataon ang mga homegrown Filipino players para lalo pang mahubog ang kanilang husay sa sports.
“I am urging the proper committee of the House of Representatives in aid of legislation to stop and prohibit all collegiate leagues from recruiting, acquiring, and using non-Filipinos as players because in effect, it stops the growth and shortchanges the development of various sports programs in the Philippines,” ani Romero.
Iginiit ng kongresista na counter-productive ang pagkuha sa mga foreigners at mas mahal din aniya ang pag-maintain sa isang koponan na kinabibilangan ng mga ito.
“Lest I’ll be accused of (being) some kind of a killjoy, I am doing this for the good of Philippine basketball. The crushing defeats we suffered in the recent FIBA World Cup has forced me to make this resolution,” dagdag pa nito.
