Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, has ordered the Coast Guard District National Capital Region – Central Luzon (CGDNCR-CL) to deploy more than 1,100 personnel. This deployment supports the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Manila LGU in ensuring a safe, secure, and peaceful Annual Feast of the Black Nazarene.
“We are expecting millions of devotees to participate in the Black Nazarene Traslacion 2025 activities. The PCG’s role is to ensure public safety and security against potential risks, including terrorism, stampedes, fires, and natural disasters such as earthquakes,” shared Admiral Gavan.
The deployment, which began on 30 December 2024 and continues until 10 January 2025, includes Coast Guard K9 teams, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, Special Operations Groups (SOGs), Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) teams, and Deployable Response Groups (DRGs). These teams are strategically stationed at the Quirino Grandstand, Jones Bridge, and around Quiapo Church. Coast Guard intelligence experts, crowd security personnel, and medical officers are also present to ensure maximum security and safety, especially during the Black Nazarene procession.
In addition, the PCG has dispatched 21 floating assets for maritime security and safety operations in the waters of the Pasig River and Manila Bay, along with nine land vehicles conducting roving inspections in the city.
“We stand in solidarity with our Catholic brothers and sisters in celebrating the Annual Feast of the Black Nazarene. Devotees can rest assured of a successful and memorable commemoration, thanks to the collective effort of the national government and law enforcement agencies to ensure zero-casualty during Traslacion 2025,” Admiral Gavan emphasized.
