The Philippines together with Australia discuss the possible joint patrol in the West Philippine Sea during a press briefing.

“We did talk today about the possibility of exploring joint patrols and we will continue that work and we hope that comes to fruition soon,” said Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles.

He added that this possible joint patrol will help in ensuring peace in the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippines and Australia have a history of joint maritime patrols in the Celebes Sea and Sulu Sea, and the two countries can redo it, says Philippine Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr.

This joint patrol between the two countries is being planned after the increasing tension with China.

It can be remembered that earlier this month, the Chinese Coast Guard pointed a military-grade laser at the Philippine Coast Guard.

On the other hand, the said partnership is also being tackled with the United States.

“The two leaders discussed proposals to deepen operational cooperation and enhance the United States and the Philippines’ shared security, including the recent decision to resume combined maritime activities in the South China Sea,” the US Department of State said in a statement.
