The test of an ICBM last Saturday and other missile launches by North Korea have been denounced by the Philippines.

According to a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) statement “These tests provoke tension and undermine peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, in the region and the world,”

“The Philippines reiterates its call for the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) to immediately put a stop to these missile tests, comply with UNSC resolutions and resort to diplomacy and peaceful dialogue with the Republic of Korea,” it added.

The latest missile launch by North Korea in recent days had several unidentified ballistic missiles being fired into the ocean off the Korean Peninsula’s east coast.

The Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile was launched on Saturday, according to North Korea, which said it was done so as part of a “surprise ICBM launching drill” ordered by leader Kim Jong Un.

The missile flew 989 kilometers (614 miles) for almost 67 minutes to an altitude of 5,768.5 kilometers (3,584 miles).

Afterwards, the sister of the North Korean leader issued a warning that more would follow unless military exercises between the US and South Korea were stopped.

United Nations Secretary General António Guterres also strongly condemned the launch and reiterated calls for Pyongyang to immediately desist from further provocative actions.
