Hindi umano magbibigay ng kanilang prediksyon ang Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas kung ilang gintong medalya ang hahakutin ng kanilang 8-man team na sasabak sa 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Pero kumpiyansa si SKP secretary-general Atty. Wharton Chan na magagawa ng kanilang team na makapaghandog ng medalya para sa bansa.

“As much as we want to be confident, syempre we also want to be modest. Our assessment for the SEA Games is that everyone would be a medalist,” wika ni Chan sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.

“We hope and pray each and every athlete would be successful in their respective categories. Doon muna tayo mas focus in promoting the sport as well as giving these athletes the break (they needed).”

Kabilang sa mga miyembro ng koponan sina Ruel Catalan (57 kg), Karol Maguide (51 kg), Jerry Olsim (69 kg), at Rex De Lara (60 kg) na hawak ni boxing coach Glenn Mondol.

Ang iba pang mga miyembro ng Pinoy squad na sasabak sa full contact, low kick, at kick light ay sina Jomar Balaguid (54 kg), Jean Claude Saclag (63 kg), and the women duo of Renz Daquel (48 kg) at Gina Iniong (55 kg).

Nagsanay ang team sa ilalim ni two-time Olympian Donald Geisler at Mark Sangiao ng Team Lakay.

Inaasahang magiging mahigpit na katunggali ng Pilipinas para sa gintong medalya ang Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, at Vietnam.

Bibiyahe naman pabalik ng Baguio City ang team para sa kanilang final weight training bago magtungo ulit sa Maynila bago ang event nila sa SEA Games, na idaraos mula Disyembre 6 hanggang 10.
