Proud na nanumpa bilang commissioner ng Los Angeles Public Works Commission sa Amerika ang Pinay na si Jessica Caloza.
Si Caloza ang pinaka-batang commissioner sa edad na 30, na na-appoint sa ilalim ng termino ni Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti hanggang 2021.
Siya rin ang pinaka-unang pure-blooded Pinay na manunungkulan sa local government unit (LGU) ng second largest city ng Estados Unidos.
Sa isang panayam nagpasalamat si Caloza sa alkalde dahil sa pagtitiwalang ibinigay nito sa kanya bilang tagapangasiwa ng Bureau of Engineering
“It’s really a testament to this mayor and administration that they believe in our generation and that we can make tough decisions no matter how old you are and that’s important. Age is also part of representation just as gender is. And just as ethnicity,†ani Caloza.
“When we were making the decision about appointing the next Public Works Commissioner this was a no-brainer for me. The best person in the city and this administration was the second closest person to my office and was right there in front of us every single day,†ayon naman kay Garcetti.
Tubong Quezon City ang pamilya ni Jessica na nag-migrate sa Amerika noong siya’y apat na taong gulang pa lang.
Bago na-appoint bilang commissioner dati na ring nagtrabaho ang Pinay sa Office of the Los Angeles City Mayor.
