Ipinasara ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ang isang Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO) matapos mabatid na hindi ito nagbabayad ng tamang buwis.
Sa bisa ng direktiba ni Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez, ikinandado ng BIR ang mga tanggapan ng Great Empire Gaming and Amusement Corp. (GEGAC) sa Subic Freeport, Eastwood sa Quezon City, at Aseana City sa Parañaque.
Batay sa ulat nasa 8,000 dayuhang empleyado ang apektado ng ginawang shutdown.
Ayon kay Finance Asec. Tony Lambino, responsibilidad din ng foreign workers na magbayad ng buwis sa bansa, gaya ng mga Pilipinong manggagawa.
“Results of the investigation showed that GEGAC is not registered for VAT (value-added tax) purposes, violating Section 108 vis-a-vis Section 115 of the Tax Code as certified by the Revenue District Office 019 – Subic Bay Freeport Zone,” ayon sa BIR.
