Kinumpirma ng Amerika na kinausap ni US Secretary of State mike pompeo si DFA Sec Teodoro Locsin, Jr.
Ayon kay Principal Deputy Spokesperson Cale Brown, kabilang sa kanilang pinag-usapan ang pagpapalakas pa ng alyansa, ekonomiya at seguridad ng dalawang bansa.
Inamin din ng tanggapan ng top envoy ng US na pinag-usapan din nila ni Locsin ang dapat na pagsunod ng mga bansa sa 2016 arbitral tribunal na nagpapatibay na pag-aari ng Pilipinas ang ilang bahagi ng South China Sea.
“Secretary Pompeo and Secretary Locsin discussed opportunities to further reinforce the U.S.-Philippine alliance and the binding nature of the 2016 arbitral tribunal award on all parties in the South China Sea. The two secretaries also discussed the economic, security, democratic, and people-to-people ties that make up the strong bond between our two countries.”
