Pope Francis, 88, is showing signs of recovery after battling pneumonia in both lungs, the Vatican reported on Thursday.
The Holy See stated that the pontiff had a restful night and is continuing to recover, with his condition slightly improving.
The Vatican also noted that the mild kidney insufficiency observed in recent days had subsided. A chest CT scan conducted on Tuesday night showed a normal progression of lung inflammation, while blood tests on Wednesday confirmed the improvement.
Despite ongoing pneumonia treatment, Pope Francis remains on high-flow oxygen therapy. However, as of Wednesday evening, he had not experienced any asthma-like respiratory crises.
The Pope, who underwent lung surgery as a young man, has been facing a series of health challenges in recent years. He was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on February 14 for breathing difficulties, marking his longest hospitalization during his papacy.
According to the Holy See, the Pope’s clinical condition has shown a slight improvement in the last 24 hours.
