In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) spearheaded by its Chairman & CEO, Sen. Richard Gordon, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Philippines shall provide food-aid to 100 families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine situations in Barangay 177, Caloocan City.

These 100 families are composed of residents, tenants, and even the stranded ones assessed as most vulnerable at the height of the pandemic in Caloocan City.

Each family will receive a food pack comprising five kilos of rice, with five packs of noodles, sardines, corned beef and meatloaf, including twelve pieces of coffee in one pack.

This food pack distribution will be attended by the personnel of the Chinese Embassy: Ambassador Huang Xillian, Chief of Political Section Ms. Guo Xiaohan, Chief of Media Section Ms. Liu Yiqun, and Attache Mr. Zhao Yujian. PRC will be represented by Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla, Director of Disaster Management Services Leonardo Ebajo, PRC Caloocan Chapter Chairman of the Board Mr. Russel Ramirez and Chapter Administrator Robert Dacles.

Chairman Gordon said that the continuous help of the Chinese Embassy during the pandemic is commendable. “We thank the Chinese people for their generosity in giving needed support to the Philippine Red Cross,” Gordon said. “With this food aid, the Chinese people help the COVID-inflicted communities to get back up once again,” he added.

The Chinese Embassy has begun distributing goods through different channels, with PRC as one of the primary partners.

PRC listed Brgy. 177 as the third most hit-by COVID-area in Caloocan, with the highest number of families in need of help. The first two, Brgy. 18 and 35, also received helped from the Chinese Embassy.

Hand in hand with PRC, the Chinese Embassy allocated PHP 3.5 million worth of food packs and disaster management-aid for the most vulnerable and affected from the corona virus onslaught in the country. PHP 500,000 is allocated for Caloocan City, with a target of assisting 500 families. The embassy aims to fulfill their target of supporting 3,500 families nationwide.

“When disaster strikes, nations come together,” Chairman Gordon said.

Through the years, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China has substantially augmented PRC’s disaster management response capability.

In the aftermath of the Typhoon Yolanda, they gave three units of Foton Payloader and cash assistance of PHP 4.3 million. The embassy also helped PRC in responding to the damages brought by the Surigao Earthquake in 2017, the typhoons Lawin and Urduja in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
