KALIBO, Aklan—A progressive group has labeled the acquittal of former Senate President and current Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile as an injustice. Enrile, along with his former chief of staff Gigi Reyes and the so-called “Pork Barrel Queen” Janet Lim Napoles, was acquitted by the Sandiganbayan Third Division in the plunder case against them.
In an interview of Bombo Radyo, former Bayan Muna Representative Teddy Casiño expressed concern, calling for a congressional investigation into what he described as the misuse of public funds.
According to Casiño, a crime was committed, but the lack of accountability left many confused and frustrated. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to seek justice for the misuse of taxpayer money.
The case, involving P172 million linked to the pork barrel scam, was filed against the three individuals. However, after a decade-long trial, the anti-graft court ruled that state prosecutors failed to prove Enrile’s guilt, leading to his acquittal along with the other accused.
