Naglabas na ng pahayag ang Con Edison, isang energy company sa New York, hinggil sa imbestigasyon nito sa dahilan ng power outtage sa Manhattan.
Umabot ng limang oras ang nangyaring blackout kung saan halos 70,000 kabahayan ang naapektuhan.
Ayon sa Con Edison, nadiskubre ng kanilang mga engineer ang palyadong koneksyon ng mga sensors at protective relays sa substation.
Sa kabila nito ay sinigurado ng kumpanya na inayos na nila ang naturang problema at gumagawa na rin umano sila ng paraan upang maiwasang muli ang pangyayari.
Nabatid na ang relay system sa West 65th Street substation ang dapat sana ay tutulong upang mapigil ang paglala ng sitwasyon ngunit naging isolated umano ang electrical fault sa transmission substation ng West 49th Street.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have taken preventive measures by isolating similar relay equipment at other substations,” dagdag pa ng kumpanya. “We will analyze and test the equipment before we put it back in service. Our electrical delivery system continues to operate with multiple layers of relay protection.”

In electrical systems, a relay detects abnormal conditions on the electrical delivery system and instantly sends signals to circuit breakers to open and isolate the problem.” saad ng Con Edison.
Naapektuhan din ng malawakang blackout ang ilan sa itinuturing na “busiest area” sa Manhattan tulad na lamang Times Square at Rockefeller Center.
Bumuhos naman ang kritisismo laban kay New York City Mayor de Blasio dahil kasalukuyan itong nasa Iowa para sa kaniyang presidential campaign.
