80-years old Cardinal Orlando Quevedo, retired archbishop of Cotabato

Retired Cotabato Archbishop Orlando Cardinal Quevedo cautioned the public on text messages ciculated by individuals to solicit fund using his name.

Quevedo he was informed about the scam text messages asking for money supposedly for his heart bypass operation.

The retired bishop denied soliciting money and clarified he will not undergo heart bypass operation.

According to 80-year old Quevedo, he already sought help from the Catholic Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to forewarn the public against the said modus.

“Warning! This is a scam,” Quevedo said.

The fake text message reads as follows: “Hi.How are you? Tried calling.I am so sorry to disturb you. I am really having second thoughts of messaging you kay maulaw gyud ko. I just would like to personally ask for help for my hospital bill. I am at the moment scheduled for a triple heart by pass operation. Please keep this as a confidential message as only few people knows that I am about to undergo the surgery. My friend Rey Golingan from Gensan also pledged to share. Hope to hear from you soon. Damo gid nga salamat and God bless!”
