Kumbinsido ang ilang mataas na opisyal ng gobyerno na hindi epektibong tugon sa nakaraang issue sa West Philippine Sea ang joint investigation sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China.
Para kay Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, isang third party investigator ang dapat na humawak sa kaso.
Hindi kasi tiwala ang bise presidente na magiging patas ang China sa sabay na imbestigasyon dahil ilang beses na raw nitong binully ang Pilipinas.
“What we want is multilateral. Apart from the investigation to be conducted separately by both countries, we hope that there is a private, third party, who will investigate on the incident too without biases,†ani Robredo sa kanyang weekly radio program.
Tutol din ang ilang senador sa pagtanggap ng pangulo sa alok na joint investigation ng Beijing.
Ayon kay Minority leader Franklin Drilon, dudungisan ng panukalang imbestigasyon ang hurisdiksyong hawak ng Pilipinas sa naturang teritoryo.
“A joint investigation would derogate our jurisdiction and prejudice our claim in the WPS,†ani Drilon.
Ikinabahala naman ni Sen. Panfilo Lacson ang posibilidad na mawalan ng bisa ang kapangyarihan ng estado sa ilalim 2016 ruling ng Permanent Court of Arbitration kapag hinayaang matuloy ang hakbang.
“While the intention of this administration may be laudable in trying to preserve our country’s bilateral relations with China, presumably for political and economic reasons in order to uplift the living standards of our people, we should also consider the more important issue of sovereignty and territorial integrity.â€
Nitong Sabado nang aminin ni Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo ang tugon ng pangulo sa alok ng China.
Nagpasalamat din daw ito kay Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc dahil sa tulong na ipinaabot ng fishing crew nito sa mga Pilipinong mangingisda.
