Houston Rockets guard and son of former NBA player Adrian Griffin, AJ Griffin is planning to quit the NBA ahead of the 2024-25 season. .
In a viral Twitter post last September 13, 2024 there are reports that the 21-year old Rockets small forward and shooting guard Griffin is “seriously considering” retirement.
Griffin, is the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. He was traded from the Atlanta Hawks to the Houston Rockets where he adjusted right away.
Griffin played in 72 games averaging 19.5 minutes per game as a rookie but eventually became 20 games averaging 8.6 minutes per game. He shot 39 percent on 3-pointers during his rookie season.
During the 2022-23 season, he is averaging 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists.
As of this writing it is unclear when exactly he will quit but he said that it will happen before the 2024-2025 NBA season starts. He did not say the real reason for his stepping away from the NBA.
