Iginiit ng mga organizers ng Roland Garros na nais pa rin nilang payagan na makapanood ng mga laro sa French Open ang mga fans, pero kailangan nilang tumalima sa physical distancing protocol.
Matatandaang mula sa orihinal na petsa na May, ipinagpaliban hanggang Setyembre ang claycourt Grand Slam dahil sa coronavirus pandemic.
Ayon kay French Tennis Federation Director General Jean-Francois Vilotte, kontra ito sa mungkahi na ibalik ang mga laro ngunit walang mga manonood.
“We are considering all the options, but we obviously don’t prefer to play behind closed doors [without fans],” wika ni Vilotte sa isang panayam.
“We want there to be fans, who respect protective measures.
“I struggle to understand that we can re-open restaurants and shops, and that we can’t do if we’re responsible for a big event like ours.”
Naniniwala si Vilotte na may sapat na kapasidad ang Roland Garros upang ligtas na makapag-host ng malaking bilang ng audience.
Sa ngayon ay kanila na raw inaalam kung papaano ito gagawin.
“We’ll have to take into consideration the health situation at the time, with protective measures that must absolutely be respected, gauging the number of people that can be deployed over the 14 hectares [of Roland Garros],” dagdag ni Vilotte.
