Kumpiyansa si House Ways and Means Committee Chairman at Albay Representative Joey Salceda na mas magiging mura na ang pagkain matapos ipag-utos ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang pagpapadali sa proseso ng pag-aangkat ng agricultural products.
Itoy matapos ilabas ng Pangulo ang Administrative Order Number 20 na i-streamline ang proseso lalo na sa pag import ng mga produktong pang agrikultura.
Pinatatanggal din ang non-tariff barriers upang tugunan ang tumataas na domestic prices.
Aminado si Salceda na napakahirap para sa isang exporter na magbenta ng pagkain sa Pilipinas dahil isa ito sa may pinakamataas na halaga ng proteksyon para sa domestic goods na nasa 27 percent share ng farm receipts.
Sinabi rin ng kongresista na bukod sa Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund o RCEF ay walang ibang mekanismo para direktang suportahan ang domestic sector sa pamamagitan ng tariff revenues.
Kaya naman nasa tamang direksyon aniya ang kautusan ni Marcos lalo’t kung lubos na maipatutupad ng DA ay mabubuksan ang sugar imports sa direct industrial users na nangangahulugang gagalaw na ang food manufacturing sector.
Masosolusyunan umano ang butas sa presyo ng isda na may mataas na antas ng non-tariff protection gaya ng Certificate of Necessity to Import.
Dagdag pa ni Salceda, ang susunod na hakbang ay dapat mapakinabangan ang kita mula sa taripa para sa domestic producers at consumers.
“The AO by President Marcos is a step in the right direction. If implemented fully by the DA, it will open sugar imports to direct industrial users. That could end the stagnation of the manufacturing sector. Right now sugar prices in the Philippines are the highest in ASEAN,” pahayag ni Salceda.
