ILOILO CITY – May bago nang kongresista ang lone district ng lalawigan ng Antique.
Ito ay matapos mangibabaw sa congressional race si outgoing Sen. Loren Legarda.
Si Legarda ay nakakuha ng boto na halos 200,000 samantala higit sa 60,000 votes lang ang nakuha ng kanyang mahigpit na katunggali na si former Antique Gov. Exequiel Javier.
Dahil sa panalo ni Legarda, pinutol nito ang mahigit sa tatlong dekadang paghahari ng pamilya Javier sa Antique.
Si Legarda ay ipinanganak sa Malabon City ngunit lumipat ito ng kanyang residency sa Pandan, Antique noong Enero 2018.
Napag-alaman na ito ang unang pagkakataon na tumakbo si Legarda bilang kongresista.
Inabot naman ng 32 taon ang pananatili ng Javier dynasty sa probinsiya ng Antique.
“By the grace of God, we have become victorious. I thank all Antiqueños who voted for me, especially those who supported me from the start. This victory is not for me alone, but for Antique and the Antiqueños. Now that the election is over, we should start working together. I extend my hand to every Antiqueño–let us unite to defeat the real enemy, which is poverty,” ani Legarda sa statement. “We are determined to do more in Antique in the next three years than has been done in the last 30 years, and prove that every province has the potential to bring prosperity to its people.”
