Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III does not agree with the move by the municipal government of Kalayaan to declare Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian “persona non grata”.

In a statement, Senator Pimentel said that such actions of the Sangguniang Bayan ng Kalayaan should be avoided as much as possible in the province of Palawan in the Western part of the country.

The Senator further said that the ambassador of another country assigned here in the Philippines is the representative of another country in our country.

That’s why he said he should slow down in declaring foreign ambassadors as personas non grata.

The Senator added that all complaints related to ambassadors and foreign relations should be forwarded to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) so that these complaints can be handled professionally.

To recall, the declaration of Huang as persona non grata in Kalayaan following the incident on August 5, where two ships of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on a resupply mission to the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal were bombarded with water or water cannons of the China Coast Guard.
