Senator Francis Tolentino on Thursday bemoaned how the alleged Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. (SBSI) cult exploited the compassion of the people of Socorro, Surigao Del Norte.
During the Senate Public Order and Women Committees’ investigation into SBSI, Tolentino stated, “They took advantage of the hospitality and good-naturedness of the Socorro population. Sinamantala nila yung kabaitan ng mga taga-Socorro nila,” he says.
When the Senator visited Socorro last March, he witnessed firsthand the goodwill of the residents.
“Napakaganda po ng Socorro, nakita ko po iyan, nag-almusal ako diyan, nagtanghalian ako diyan, napakababait po ng mga tao,” Sen. Tol said
Meanwhile, Tolentino emphasized how the Senate panel followed the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) procedures to protect the children engaged in the probe.
SBSI, which has over 3,000 members and is located in Sitio Kapihan in Surigao Del Norte, is accused of abusing children and forcing kids to get married.
