Betsaida Lopez has once again filed her candidacy for senator after being declared a nuisance candidate by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the previous elections.

Lopez even threatened that if the poll body does not allow her to run next year, she will curse everyone involved in the process.

When asked if mental capacity is included in the Comelec’s examination to determine if a candidate is qualified to be declared a nuisance candidate, Comelec spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco responded that it should be consulted with experts.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia previously admitted that the commission is facing many complaints in the Supreme Court from candidates who complained about being classified as nuisance candidates.

Garcia explained that based on the court’s previous ruling, it has provided guidance to the poll body on how to process the candidacies filed this year.

He added that candidates tagged as nuisance will be summoned and given the opportunity to explain why they should not be labeled as mere distractions in the election.
