President Rodrigo Duterte received praises from several senators after ordering the dismissal of Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon on Wednesday.

The president’s decision came after the misapplication of good conduct time allowance (GCTA) law where Faeldon approved the release of almost 2,000 heinous crime convicts.

In an interview of Bombo Radyo, Senate blue ribbon committee chairman Senator Richard Gordon lauded Duterte’s move to fire Faeldon.

For the lawmaker, the President’s decision is a big help for Senate’s investigation to regain the trust of the Filipinos to their government and provide clarity on what is really happening inside BuCor and NBP.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said he had expected that Duterte will make such announcement and called out other BuCor officials to also step down from their positions.

Minority Senators Franklin Drilon and Francis Pangilinan also lauded Duterte’s decision, however, they said that Faeldon should not be appointed to any government positions again.

Senator Bong Go also supported the idea that all convicts that don’t deserve the GCTA grant should go back to prison.

While House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano believed that Faeldon’s dismissal is part of the President’s campaign against corrupt officials.
