Kinumpirma ni Interior Secretary Eduardo Año na naisumite na siya ang shortlist ng mga kandidato para maging susunod na PNP chief kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Ayon kay Año, tatlong pangalan ng heneral ang kaniyang isinumite sa shortlist pero itinangging pangalanan nito ang tatlong opisyal at ang kanilang ranggo.
Magreretiro na kasi sa serbisyo sa September 2 si PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa.
Ang mga possible contenders ay sina Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan, deputy chief for administration and head of the Administrative Support to COVID-19 Operations Task Force (ASCOTF); Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, deputy chief for operations and commander of the Joint Task Force Covid Shield; and Lt. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, chief of the PNP directorial staff.
Sinabi din ni Ano, desisyon na ng Pangulong Duterte kung i-extend nito si Gamboa lalo na at nasa COVID-19 pandemic ang bansa.
