Nasabat ng militar ang .50-caliber sniper rifle at mga high-powered firearms ng rebeldeng New Peoples Army (NPA) matapos makasagupa ng mga sundalo mula sa 53rd Infantry Battalion ang rebeldeng grupo sa Zamboanga del Norte, kahapon, Sabado, July 11, 2020.
Sa report na inilabas ng 1st Infantry Division ng Philippine Army, umigting ang 10 minutong labanan na naganap sa boundaries ng Sitio Tumanong, Brgy Macasing at Sitio Lacnapan, Barangay Pange, pawang sa bayan ng Siayan sa Zamboanga del Norte.
Walang naiulat na nasawi o nasugatan sa panig ng mga sundalo.
Bukod sa sniper rifle, narekober ng mga sundalo ang isang Rocket Propelled Grenade, isang M16 Assault Rifle, backpacks, medical paraphernalia, terrorists propaganda materials, assorted medicines at mga ammunitions.
Ayon kay 53rd IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, nakatanggap kasi sila ng impormasyon mula sa komunidad hinggil sa presensiya ng armadong grupo.
“The cooperation of the residents in the area not only revealed the whereabouts of the communist terrorists, it also helped in the preservation of peace in the area,” ayon kay Lt. Col. Herrera.
Pinatitiyak naman ni 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Leonel Nicolas sa mga tropa na ipagpatuloy ang pag sustain sa kanilang military operations laban sa mga teroristang grupo na nag-ooperate sa nasabing probinsiya.
“We’ve hit them hard and we expect more informations from the locals who’ve continuously report the NPA presence in their communities” wika ni Col. Nicolas.
Nagkaroon din ng sagupaan nuong Biyernes sa pagitan ng mga sundalo at rebeldeng NPA sa Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte na ikinasawi ng dalawang rebelde.
“It is now very clear that the people’s resolve is absolute in rejecting the Communist-Terrorist ideology,” Col. Nicolas added.
Sa kabilang dako, hinimok ni 1st ID Commander, Maj. Gen. Gene Ponio 1st Infantry Division Commander, na magbalik loob na sa gobyerno.
“The government is sincere and willing to help you (NPA) to return and reintegrate into the mainstream society” pahayag ni Maj. Gen. Ponio.
