MANILA – Nakapagtala pa ang Pilipinas ng 52 bagong kaso ng “mas nakakahawang” B.1.351 o South African variant ng COVID-19 virus na SARS-CoV-2.

Ayon sa Department of Health (DOH), natukoy ang mga bagong kaso ng South African variant matapos ang ika-siyam na batch ng samples na isinailalim sa whole genome sequencing.
“The Department of Health (DOH), the UP-Philippine Genome Center (UP-PGC), and the UP-National Institutes of Health (UP-NIH) report the detection of 52 additional B.1.351 variant (South Africa variant) cases… among the 9th batch of 350 samples sequenced by the UP-PGC.”
Batay sa press release ng ahensya, 41 mula sa 52 bagong South African variant cases ang mula sa National Capital region. Ang 11 naman ay inaalam pa kung local case o returning overseas Filipino (ROFs).
“One case from NCR has recovered, while the remaining 51 cases are currently tagged as active and are being managed.”
Dahil dito, 58 na ang kabuuang bilang ng tinamaan ng B.1.351 variant sa bansa.
UK VARIANT
Bukod sa South African variant, nag-ulat din ang DOH ng 31 bagong kaso ng isa pang “mas nakakahawang” B.1.1.7 o UK variant ng COVID-19 virus.
Ayon sa Health department, pare-pareho pang active cases ang mga bagong kaso ng UK variant.
“28 of the B.1.1.7 cases have indicative addresses in NCR, while three (3) cases are being verified if these are local cases or ROFs.”
Sa ngayon mayroon ng 118 total cases ng UK variant sa Pilipinas.
MUTATIONS OF ‘POTENTIAL CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE’
Samantala, nag-ulat din ang ahensya ng 42 na bagong kaso ng “mutations of potential clinical significance” mula sa populasyon ng confirmed cases.
Batay sa datos ng DOH, 34 sa mga ito ang mula Central Visayas. Anim naman ang mula National Capital Region, at dalawa ang inaalam pa kung local case o ROF.
“Twenty-two (22) of the 34 cases from Region 7 are now recovered. Meanwhile, the remaining 12 Region 7 cases, all 6 NCR cases, and both cases being verified are tagged as active cases.”
Sa kabuuan, umaabot na sa 76 ang confirmed cases na may mutation ng N501Y at E484K.
Nagpupulong na raw ang mga opisyal ng Centers for Health Development, Metropolitan Manila Development Council, at local government units sa NCR at Region 7.
