David Thaddeus Alba, the director of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), has resigned, Malacañang announced. He is the second administrator of the SRA to leave his position under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

In a statement, Malacañang said Alba visited Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Wednesday, March 22, “informing him of his decision to resign.” Bersamin “persuaded him not to,” but Alba cited his worsening health.

Alba’s resignation, according to Marcos, will take effect on April 15 “to prepare the appointment of his replacement.”

Rex Estoperez, the assistant secretary for agriculture, also announced Alba’s resignation during a press conference.
