The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported Sunday that Taal Volcano in Batangas has been continuously exhibiting significant degassing activity since Saturday night.
Since 10:30 p.m., the degassing has accelerated. In a warning on Saturday, PHIVOLCS added that there had been “visible upswelling of volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake.”
According to the agency, this resulted in massive steam-rich plumes rising up to 3,000 meters over Taal Volcano Island, or TVI.
As a result, Taal Caldera saw severe volcanic fog, often known as vog.
Residents of the Batangas municipalities of Balete, Laurel, and Agocillo reported seeing vog as well.
