The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported that portions of Masbate, Capiz, and other regions have been found to have toxic red tide levels over the legal limit.
The BFAR reported that shellfish harvested and analyzed from the following locations contained hazardous red tide or paralytic shellfish poison:
coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate;
coastal waters of Panay, President Roxas, and Pilar in Capiz;
coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol;
San Pedro Bay in Samar;
Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; and
Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur.
However, the BFAR stated that as long as fish, squid, shrimp, and crabs are fresh, fully cleaned, and have had their internal organs like gills and intestines removed before cooking, they are safe to consume.
Cancabato Bay in Tacloban City, Leyte, “is now free of the toxic red tide.” the BFAR added.
